Well, hello there! I'm Ms. Waggoner, a traditional first grade teacher at Edwardsburg Primary. I have been an educator for over 10 years, spending 8+ years of that in first grade! My orange and blue roots run deep as I am a 2002 EHS graduate, my son graduated in 2020, and my daughter will graduate in 2025. I was a member of the Edwardsburg Little League Board, Head of Concessions (2021-2023) and am currently a board member for the EPS Foundation. I truly love and believe in this village and all the opportunities it has to offer.
I love adventure and thrive in the sun if the weather allows, so most days away from the classroom you will find me outside. I enjoy fiddling in the yard and garden, finding new trails to hike (or old ones to rediscover), taking my four-legged bff on walks around the lake, camping up north, and kayaking. In the summer my daughter and I attend as many concerts and festivals as we can. We enjoy the mini road trip drives as much as the music!
In room 20 we believe not only in rigorous academics but learning compassion, giving grace, second chances, and redemption. My classroom thrives on building relationships and we're heavy on developing our communication skills. I am a big believer in "whole brain teaching". Whole brain teaching is a teaching strategy used to activate students' brains and maximize engagement by incorporating movement and call backs with learning. If you pop in to visit or volunteer you can find us navigating our Daily 5 schedule, manipulating phonemes during Fundations, brainstorming and partner sharing during writing, and using manipulatives, games, songs/chants, and open dialogue during math. If your timing is just right you might walk in during a room transformation (shark week, Waggoner's Pizzeria) or even catch us in the middle of an escape room!
